CURTAIN RAISER: AYTW2010

AYTW2010 finally raised its curtains on the 7th of this month. The band "SPACE" performed really well and put up a good show. One and all were mesmerized by the performances and were talking about the theme and the innovativeness the band introduced in their concert. The performing artists were appreciated for such an enthralling show.

The Curtain Raising Event went well and was highly appreciated.

The band performed with interesting transitions and sound movements. The songs were a mix of covers and originals. "Space" recreated the classics like "Summertime" or "E shudhu gaaner din" by Sandhya Mukherjee. Other tracks performed by the all girls band were "Teardrop" by MassiveAttack or "All I need" by Air.

The Kolkatta based band's originals were composed with electronic and acoustic elements. The lyrics of these self composed songs have a strong narrative, where the feminist element is at core. For instance, "Kali's forest" talks about the domestic violence and a Punjabi rhythmic song "Zindagi bitani" talks about the social liberation of women.

Space is essentially an experimental outfit where they have incorporated elements of Jazz, hip hop, psy-trance and rap through which "they are on a journey to share their new sound in newer spaces".
