AYTW 2010 MUMBAI (December 5-9) @ Sophia Bhabha Auditorium

DIL-E-NAADAN ON DECEMBER 8 @ 4.30PM

Man realizes through life myriad hues that happiness and pleasure are short lived and yet inspite of this solemn realization he sees to be constantly in pursuit of such sublime fragments of happiness. As a matter of fact life gets reduced to a comedy of errors jumping from 1 moment of satisfaction to another moment of want. This paradox is depicted through the very famous poet Mirza Ghalib’s poetry which is a reflection of human life.

Ghalib no longer peeps through cobwebs of history but represents and becomes the living legend of the common man.

DIRTY TALK ON DECEMBER 6 @ 8 PM

A young Indian scientist is England returned
and rich from an invention that has touched the hearts and lives of the millions. He has, quite
literally, cleaned up our shit. The capitalists love it, so do the communists. The feminists adore him
and the socialites can’t stop giggling.
He's a rockstar and a poster boy who's got your mother, your maid, your media and
your maniacs, rooting for him. It's FIVE days
to election day and our man is on the verge of seriously upsetting the local strongmen of Mumbai City. But golden boy has a secret. A rather dirty secret? One that might make you blush a little.

DAY 8: AYTW2010

The DAY 8 being the last performance day of the AYTW2010, Delhi episode was the most important as it marked the successful culmination of the AYT WEEK AT DELHI. The event was full of amazing people…who joined in for the common love of theatre.

The super packed auditorium witnessed three plays. The first two performances for the day were by college theatre groups while the theatre week ended with the solo performance by renowned theatre artiste Lushin Dubey.

The play "UNTITLED" directed by Arvind Gaur starring Lushin Dubey is a powerful statement on women's sexuality and her struggle for liberation once she's bound in the role of a wife, a queen and most of all her duty of "being" a "woman" has been redefined by the playwright.

The play's imagery and performance was to the "T" and the spectacular show left everyone spellbound. The play "Untitled" has travelled across oceans and has seen an audience at over 300 places.

The day started with "FIRANGI LAUT AAYE" by HANSRAJ College in performance.

Next on the block was S.R.C.C. with its production titled "SAMAR".

The plays were well appreciated by the audience.

As it is said that the journey never ends…..

The AYTW2010, Delhi was a happy theatre experience. The experience was maddening in terms of hard work that went into it… it was a tremendous effort on part of our festival director KULJEET SINGH who roped in people from various walks and streams of life who came together for the "love of the theatre" and put their heart and soul into it…putting life into a theatre event and making it livelier by their gracious presence and sincere efforts.

Kudos to all who made this event a success story J

AYTW2010:DAY 5

AYTW2010: DAY 5

Street theatre day3

The theatre resumes the next day after a pleasant evening of the musical performance by "Kalpvriksha".

It's the 3rd and the last street

theatre day for AYTW2010 marking the stage shows' opening at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House.

The last street theatre day pulled huge amounts of crowd and people enjoyed the "nukkad natak" to the very hilt. The venue was Venkateswara College, University of Delhi.

The first college to perform was Kirori Mal College street production named "Kuch Mat Bolo". The play is very topical in nature as it deals with the issue of "honour killing" and the multi layered perspectives associated to it.

The next performance was by Venkateswara College titled "Dhappa, Teri Den"

The performance is introspection into the lives of youngsters who commit crimes and are thereby kept in observation homes and juvenile homes for their "crime". The atrocities faced by them by the staff at such places have been well depicted through the play.

After the plays' performance, Ms. Ruchika Sharma who is a Lecturer, Dept.of History, Kamla Nehru College and is also an activist was our panelist and chief speaker of the day. She alongwith the festival director Mr. Kuljeet Singh graced the occasion and initiated a discussion forum where the teams discussed about the issues they took up for their performance and the hurdles they faced in the "making".

“KALPVRIKSHA” PERFORMANCE - Day 4 of AYTW 2010

The musical performance at Oxford Bookstore, Statesman House,Barakhamba Road on the 17th of November was nice andwarm. The gathering had a wonderful time listening to the band "Kalpvriksh". The sound of Kalpvriksh relates to fusion music that not only brings together the diverse musical elements of the east and the west but also presents an infusion of various sub-genres, like house, electronic, Blues, R&B, Indian classical & Sufi music.

"KALPVRIKSH" melody is based on the guitars that add the sound of the ever popular nylon string Spanish flamenco and classical guitar. The flourishing of rhythm as found in flamenco as well the sounds of the Ud and exotic mid-eastern music played on the guitar expands the generic boundaries and makes the world a smaller place.
Blues and neoclassical guitar have an important role in making this band a very versatile outfit for a wide variety of audience. The flute plays a very important part in the band's melodic ventures. One can hear the influences of Indian classical and light music, Chinese as well as Irish tradition. The vocals truly represent the flavor of old Delhi and cover the classical song rendition in Delhi Gharana style. They also help in bringing elements of music from across the borders.
Kalpvriksh uses percussion instruments from different parts of the country and abroad. One can hear African, Arabic, Iranian influences well merged with the Tabla that represents the Delhi Gharana.
The computer and synthesizer form the backbone of the sound of Kalpvriksh. In short, the sound of Kalpvriksh is not that of the different sounds of different regions, instruments or cultures. Kalpvriksh diffuses all boundaries and represents /provides the sound of free music.

The band was appreciated by one and all.

AYTW 2010:DAY 3

AYTW 2010:DAY 3

STREET THEATRE DAY 2

The Atelier Youth Theatre week's Day 3 too had street theatre on its itinerary.

The event was held at Hindu College, University of Delhi. Three college teams showcased their talent through their performances and the social message was well communicated through their acts and means.

Festival director Kuljeet Singh introduced the days' event. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce was the first to perform for the day. Their play named "Kyunki Main Hindu Hun!" was an eye opener as they spoke about the "identity crisis" of Indians and the question of how "secular" are we was well raised through the performance. The next on the scheme of the day was "Baazaar" presented by S.G.T.B.Khalsa College; the play through diverse representations depicted that how the value of a human body is no more than a commodity in today's world. "Kyun Karein" by Hindu College was a play which raised a very pertinent issue, the fact that each one criticizes the system but nonetheless does not want to initiate the action that will bring out the change. The "lack of effort on our part" is what outlined the play.

The plays were performed with great zest and were well appreciated.

The public forum for the participating teams of the day followed the performances. The public forum was initiated by Ms. Suchitra Gupta. The session was interactive and was fruitful as it made the teams know their weak points and the strategy to improve upon those.

AYTW 2010 : DAY 2

"Bandi" by Roobaroo (an independent theatre group) is a play which dealt with the issue of female sex workers's status in "our" society.

The plays were performed with great zest and were well appreciated.

An informal panel discussion followed the performances. It was carried out with the performing teams of the day. The panel discussion was spear headed by Shahid Anwar, a veteran theatre practitioner.
